Rangers Take Game 1 of 2024 Playoffs
Rempe, Panarin Lead Offense in 3-0 Shutout
Zibanejad, Shesterkin Shine as Rangers Blank Maple Leafs
NEW YORK -- Matt Rempe netted the first goal for the New York Rangers, igniting a three-goal surge within a span of 206 seconds. Artemi Panarin, the team's leading scorer, quickly followed up with a goal of his own just 33 seconds later.
Mika Zibanejad added to the scoring in the third period, while goalie Igor Shesterkin made 29 saves to secure the shutout victory.
Rempe, who scored his first playoff goal, admitted to feeling a mix of excitement and relief after getting the Rangers on the board.
"It's a great feeling to get that first one out of the way," said Rempe. "Hopefully, it's just the beginning of a long run."
The Rangers' strong defensive play, led by Shesterkin, was crucial to their success. The Maple Leafs managed to put together only one power play during the game, and they failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
The Rangers now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 2 will take place in Toronto on Friday night.
