Germany extends Iran deportation ban until end of year
Germany's interior ministers have agreed to extend a ban on deportations to Iran until the end of the year in light of the ongoing human rights situation in the country, according to a report from the German Press Agency (DPA).
The move was supported by the federal interior ministry, according to DPA reporter Lukas Schulze.
According to Berlin's interior ministry, deportations to Iran have been rare in recent years, with none taking place in 2020, 2021 or 2022. As of August, 668 Iranian nationals were living in Berlin.
