Chelsea FC victorious in pre-season opener against Wrexham AFC
Blues cruise to 5-0 win in Chapel Hill with new manager at the helm
Maatsen and Hudson-Odoi shine in Pochettino's debut match
Chelsea Football Club kicked off their pre-season campaign in style on Wednesday evening, securing a comfortable 5-0 victory against Wrexham AFC at the Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The match marked the first official game in charge for new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, and the Argentine tactician will have been pleased with what he saw from his team.
Chelsea took the lead after just 10 minutes through Ian Maatsen, who finished clinically after being played in by Mason Mount. The Blues doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark when Callum Hudson-Odoi cut inside from the left and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
Pochettino's side continued to dominate after the break, and they added three more goals in the second half. Christian Pulisic made it 3-0 with a fine individual effort, before Armando Broja and Hakim Ziyech completed the rout.
Chelsea's victory was a positive start to their pre-season preparations, and they will now face Charlotte FC in their next match on Saturday, July 15.
