Area of Past Unrest
The incident occurred in the same area that was infamously hit by the Harehills Riot in 2001, which broke out after the wrongful arrest of a local resident. The current unrest has been linked to a police incident, but details remain unclear.
Residents have been urged to stay at home as emergency services battle to quell the rioting. A riot van has been deployed, and around 30 police officers have been seen clashing with locals.
